Blue Sapphires

The most commonly known sapphires are Blue Sapphires. While they are found in various hues ranging from light pale blue to rich royal blue, the most sought after and prized colour is the vivid, velvety blue, in medium to medium-dark tones.

For a sapphire to be called true blue, its secondary colours must not account for more than 15% of the stone's overall colour. These secondary colours are always green and purple. Sapphires that display secondary colours greater than 15% are classified as greenish-blue, purple-blue, and violet, and are seen as unique or fancy coloured stones.
